Growing House
A family home set within an acre of private garden in Wimledon, South London.
The project is named after the mature Indian bean tree within the courtyard and focuses on bringing natural light into the core of the house while strengthening connections to its landscape setting.
A new extension and extensive glazing improve the relationship between the house and garden, opening key spaces to views and daylight. At the centre of the scheme, a sculptural spiral staircase set within a glazed link draws light deep into the plan and forms the heart of a new, enlarged entrance hall. The front door was repositioned to align centrally with this space, reinforcing a clear sense of arrival.
The works include a bespoke jewellery studio with integrated workbench and a new master suite with a tailored walk-in dressing room and refined bathroom featuring a freestanding bath and glass detailing.
Mechanical and electrical systems were discreetly integrated, including aspirating fire detection, underfloor heating throughout, and a layered LED lighting strategy with concealed joinery lighting and uplighting to covings. Externally, a redesigned front garden introduces new paving and planting to create a strong focal point on approach, completing the sequence from arrival through to garden.
